Karen is a former Executive Vice President for Bank of America, responsible for Midwest and Southwest commercial banking activities, and served as Lead Director and non-Executive Board Chair of Los Angeles based Electro Rent Corporation until the company's sale to a private investment firm in 2016. In addition to her role a President of the Friends of Chapel Hill Public Library, she is a member of the Board of Directors of The Walking Classroom, an NFP that offers academic enrichment and structured physical exercise for students through a unique program of podcasts; and serves on the Board Audit Committee for Carolina Friends School.
