The following is the 2021 membership letter.

We began 2020 with high hopes for our Friends.  Most had fundraising plans and projects in the pipeline and we eagerly looked forward to improving our cash positions and our donations to the libraries we serve.  But alas, most, if not all of us, were sidelined by something really, really small, but really, really big in terms of impact—COVID-19.  This virus dashed our hopes and decimated our dreams.  Groups without cash reserves are possibly failing and we certainly were not able to help our libraries in terms of contributions as we had planned.

That being acknowledged, it is time to shake off this mantle of doom and gloom. Yes, COVID-19 is not done with us yet.  Yes, our fundraising intentions are still being thwarted, but it is time to focus on what we can do instead of what we can’t do.

FONCPL can help you with ideas, examples and templates.  We are in the process of packing our website with resources for all sizes of Friends groups from the smallest to the largest.  These resources will help you to run your Friends group more efficiently and professionally.  The project ideas will help reenergize your group, if interest is flagging.  We also plan to include training videos that you can use in conjunction with your meetings or as educational programs for Board development.  These videos will kick off on Saturday, April 10th and a second round of videos will be available October 23rd.

FONCPL for many years has had an awards program for individuals Friends and groups. We are in the process of revamping the program.

In 2021 we have instituted a grants program. Those FONCPL member that are current on their dues may apply for up to $250 for a project benefitting their Friends.

FONCPL has used very little of our financial resources in 2020. We are a frugal Board. The only source of revenue is the dues paid for group and individual memberships plus a few donations.  We hope that you will continue to support FONCPL and its new direction in 2021 by paying your dues.

Remember, we are here to help.  If you need advice, encouragement, or just a shoulder to cry on, please contact one of us.  We thank you for your support and we look forward to continuing to serve you.

In closing, here is a quote that I saw online that could be a mantra for this new year, “Let go of what’s gone; Be grateful for what remains; Look forward to what’s coming.”

The FONCPL Board wishes your Friends every success in its endeavors!

In Friendship,

Judy Hills, President
