Lisa Flanigan is a Youth Services Librarian who is passionate about the ways in which libraries can support early reading skills! StoryWalks are just one of the tools in the arsenal. Check out the Appalachian Regional Library YouTube channel to view a curated set of story time videos supporting alphabet recognition and phonemic awareness. Listen to the 15 minute video presentation of the Alphabet Ready Grant which enabled the Appalachian Regional Library to take alphabet focused story times into EVERY kindergarten classroom in two counties, bring those students to the public library on field trips, and train a small army of volunteers to present these story time in child development center. The ARL library system contineus to create programs with the purpose of supporting caregivers, children, and teachers, as well as encouraging our coworkers in the library profession.
